Nell is helped in various ways by the Primer. More specifically, she learns. Nell learns a little bit about self-defense from the Primer, more specifically, from the section with the mouse named Dojo and Dinosaur. She uses this self-defense she learns to fend off a bully at school named Kevin. Also she uses her self-defense against another one of her mother’s abusive boyfriends, as well as a stranger in the woods.

The Primer helps Nell realize what is going on in her life. It shows her how her mothers boyfriend abuses her and that it is not okay. The Primer convinces Nell to run away so she cannot be harmed anymore. The Primer also showed Nell a story of a stranger coming up to her and telling her to let him come over. This story ended up happening after Nell had seen it which helped her to figure out what to do. With the Primer Nell has also learned how to use her imagination, read, spell, have self-confidence and self-defense.

I think the self reliance and independence that are given to Nell by the primer are important, but the most important thing that the primer gives Nell is a willingness to learn. The primer takes her on adventures where she has to explore and figure things out for herself, and also make these adventures realistic and interesting which lead her to ask more questions and explore even more things.

The primer teaches alot that she can use in the world around her. Stuff that her mother was supposed to teach her but is never there. Nell is very lucky to have a bother such as Harv, the primer has taught her how to defend herself from the people that her stupid mother brings into her life, that beats her. I think that the primer has showed Nell that she can do stuff on her own, that she doesn’t have to sit in her room with her animals. It has made her kind of venture off and do her own thing. Think for herself.

Reading is another thing that the primer has taught Nell, I know that she doesn’t know how to read completely, but they book has started to teach her this, explaining each word and doing exercises with her to help her remember.

The primer has helped Nell have an imagination and that also helps with how she deals with different situations.
