I think certain types of games offer community. The vast majority of games today offer community in the form of multi-player online games. MMORPG’s like WOW and games like Second life offer a very deep community with multiple ways to interact with the in game society. However games like Bioshock offer very little in the way of community. There are a few people in the game that you befriend, but they are non player characters, and most of them are pretty shifty, and offer very little sense of community.

I like gpaismetal beleive that games like halo 3 and COD offer a very large sense of community or atleast when you play online. I think this because thats pretty much what that part of the game was designed for playing actual people that are in differnet places, and this offeres that sense of community.
