I jump right into the video game, without reading the manual. I just pop in the game into my system, and sometimes I will do a tutorial. I don’t read the manual, because often, some of the controls are universal across games, like some controls are shared between Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4.

I also spend the first few minutes of the game just messing with the controls because I learn better by doing, or I have learned most the controls by watching a friend play the game before hand.

I almost never play games but when I do I don’t use the manual. I like to learn how to do it on my own so if I win I can say I did it without help. If I happen to play a more difficult game that I can’t get on my own I would ask someone I know who had played it before a specific question related to what I was having a problem on rather than checking the manual. If I still can get though the game without help from an outside source I would then look in a manual.

I usually use different methods when I am learning different types of games. I might jump in the game for shooters (gears of war) or simple games (frogger, but for harder games like Saints Row I have to read the manual for easier gameplay. I can almost automatically jump into a shooter game or simple game and know whats what. For games that have alot more combo buttons I am usually reading the manual as I am playing along through the game.
